The UES original selvedge fabric is characterized by its wool-like volume and deep color, despite being made of 100% cotton. Because the fabric is woven with very thick thread, there is a limit to the number of looms that can be used in Japan, and because it uses an old shuttle loom, it is a valuable fabric that can only be produced in a limited amount per year. The reason why we use old shuttle looms is to weave slowly without excessively pulling the warp threads in order to bring out the original texture of the threads. By doing so, although the speed of production slows down, it is possible to create a soft and bulky fabric.
Regarding the pattern of the fabric, the plaid pattern is large in order to give it a feeling of outerwear. When cutting the parts, multiple skilled craftsmen work together to match the patterns. The larger the pattern, the more fabric will be required for one garment. Matching the patterns makes the finished product look beautiful.
The attention to detail extends to the buttons. UES uses a button carved from the horn of a buffalo. Although it is inferior in strength compared to plastic ones, it is used because it has excellent color and texture. With black as the base color, there are also dark and light brown ones, and no two are the same. Some of the shapes are slightly chipped, but we hope that you will take it as a characteristic of natural materials. A spare button is sewn on the washing indication, so please remove it and keep it.
The products of UES are made by using old style shuttle looms and old type dyes to add a more personal touch to our products. Please understand a little uneven fabric, nep, a flaw in weaving, uneven dye as a characteristic of our products.
